Ideal Weight Calculator - Health Insights

Ideal Weight Calculator

Estimate healthy weight ranges based on your height, age, gender, and body frame. This calculator compares multiple medical formulas (BMI, Devine, Hamwi, Robinson, Miller), visually shows ideal range, and explains how these formulas work for real-world health.

Choose based on wrist circumference or how you feel about your build.

About the Formulas Used

  • BMI Range (World Health Organization): Ideal range based on BMI 18.5–24.9. Weight = BMI × Height² (kg, m)
  • Devine Formula (1974):
Men: 50 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5ft
Women: 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5ft
  • Hamwi Formula (1964):
Men: 48 kg + 2.7 kg per inch over 5ft
Women: 45.5 kg + 2.2 kg per inch over 5ft
  • Robinson Formula (1983):
Men: 52 kg + 1.9 kg per inch over 5ft
Women: 49 kg + 1.7 kg per inch over 5ft
  • Miller Formula (1983):
Men: 56.2 kg + 1.41 kg per inch over 5ft
Women: 53.1 kg + 1.36 kg per inch over 5ft

Body frame adjustments: add/subtract up to 10% for large/small frames.
For heights under 152.4 cm (5ft), the formula starting weight is used.

Limitations & Healthy Considerations

  • Does not distinguish between fat and lean mass; athletes may classify as overweight.
  • Not suitable for children/pregnant people; consult a healthcare professional for personalized guidance.
  • Ethnicity, genetics, and body composition are not factored in these formulas.
  • Frame estimation is a rough guide. For more accuracy, use wrist circumference methods.
  • Healthy living means focusing on body composition, fitness, and well-being rather than only numbers!
